“Repeal Medicaid Cuts: The over $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid passed by Donald Trump in his ‘Large Lousy Law’ will impact every single child, not just the 50% of children who rely on Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for healthcare, according to Lurie Children’s Hospital, the largest children’s hospital in Chicago. To right this wrong, Raja has introduced legislation to repeal the Medicaid cuts and surge emergency funds to states, communities, and individuals in the greatest need.

Expand & Protect Medicare Drug Negotiation Power: Raja was proud to support the groundbreaking changes passed in 2022, allowing Medicare to initially negotiate the price of ten prescription drugs, with plans for gradually increasing the number of participating drugs in the years to come. While this was a pivotal first step, this authority should be accelerated and expanded to cover additional medications. Raja will introduce legislation to lift the cap on the annual number of new drugs selected to be subject to negotiation. A simple legislative change would allow CMS to accelerate drug pricing negotiations, expanding the list and lowering costs for seniors.

Hold PBMs Accountable and Pass PBM Reform: In recent years, a new industry of middlemen has encroached on local pharmacies and driven up the costs of everyday prescription drugs. Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), often controlled by large national health insurance companies, have led directly to higher costs despite pledging the opposite. A longtime advocate of PBM reform, Raja has proposed legislation this year to tackle the growing costs caused by this industry, and he will continue to use his more visible role in the U.S. Senate to pass this vital reform package.”
